Mariah Carey found herself in an odd spot during an interview with Good Morning Britain on Monday (October 2).

The singer was giving a remote interview with the show to promote her upcoming Christmas tour when word broke about the mass shooting at Las Vegas’ Route 91 Harvest Festival on Sunday night. Country star Jason Aldean was performing when shots rang out.

The interview took a turn for the serious with Carey reflecting on the severity of the situation:

It’s just awful. Again, I pray for the victims and hope that all of this can stop as soon as possible. I’ve spent a lot of time in Vegas. This type of thing happening anywhere is a huge tragedy. So I continue to pray for the victims and hope we have an end to this as soon as possible.”

@GMB Terrible events in Las Vegas. Let's get the views of Mariah Carey in front of a Christmas tree! Irrelevant and inappropriate. #getagrip

Mariah Carey slouched answers questions on Vegas shooting on #GMB infront of a Christmas tree looking like a Barry White album cover

@GMB Mixing a pre-arranged interview w Mariah Carey (& Xmas tree?!) with awful news from Las Vegas. Surreal, unfair to her, poor journalism

Give Mariah Carey a break. She was on GMB to discuss a Christmas tour not the Las Vegas shooting. It's not her fault she was blind-sided.

Mariah Carey has been put on the spot by that prick Piers Morgan about the Vegas shootings during a pre planned interview #gmtv

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan offered no apologies for discussing the matter with Carey, claiming she’s an artist who could offer valuable insight.

Mariah was booked to do an interview about her UK Christmas tour. Obviously news events in Vegas have now taken precedence.

We told Mariah's people before the interview.
Her reaction seemed very relevant given she's a performer who often has residence in Vegas.

Carey herself tweeted her thoughts after learning about the shooting — she was just one of a slew of celebrities who voiced her thoughts via social media.

Horrified to hear about the shooting in #LasVegas. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. Praying for everyone's safety
